The talk is fairly technical, but the three core features - Neural Arrays, Radiance Cores and Universal Compression - look set to make a big impact on future AMD-based hardware. The main goal is speeding up computionally-expensive ray tracing and path tracing in some novel ways, as well as reducing the cost of the upscaling and denoising techniques they rely on.

This 27-inch Asus glossy OLED gaming monitor is £200 off for October Prime Day

OLED gaming monitors are getting increasingly affordable, and one of the best October Prime Day deals is on a great example from Asus.

Amazon October Prime Day liveblog Day 2: the best tech, PC and gaming deals as we find them

Amazon's October Prime Day sales have entered its final day, finishing at midnight tonight. A single 16-pin power cable maxes out at 600W, so the ROG Matrix uses both the proprietary BTF connector built into Asus motherboards and the regular 16-pin power input. That should make this the most powerful consumer graphics card in the world by a huge margin, and just how it's been designed is fascinating.

With a new tandem OLED monitor that can hit 720Hz, the 1000Hz dream is almost here

Asus just revealed two new tandem OLED monitors at an event adjacent to Gamescom 2025, including a flagship model that's able to hit a blistering 720Hz (!) - at a reduced resolution of 720p - or a still-scintillating 540Hz at its normal resolution of 1440p. The update is a big one, and promises fixes to performance woes, crashes and other bugs that have afflicted the game since launch. Right now, the best gaming monitor you can get is probably a QD-OLED 4K 240Hz model from MSI, Dell or Asus. Some compelling options using third-gen Samsung QD-OLED panels arrived last year in a 32-inch form factor, and now we're seeing the same specs in a more compact 27-inch design. That should allow for better compatibility with smaller desks, better glanceability for esports and crisper text rendering at 166PPI, but how does it work in practice?

Their QcK range has endured as a popular option for more than 20 years, but the mouse pad space has seen significant evolution as of late, mirroring similar explosions for the likes of mechanical keyboards and ultra-light mice. Boutique mouse pad firms are now producing a wide range of specialised options for esports aficionados, from low-friction speed pads made from exotic materials to control-focused 'mud' pads designed for ultimate precision. That meant it was time for a refresh at SteelSeries HQ, with the Danish firm taking cues from some of the most popular enthusiast brands to produce the QcK Performance lineup that we're reviewing today.

This 2TB SanDisk Extreme for £120 is the best portable SSD deal of Amazon's spring sale

In the market for a portable SSD? Thankfully, Digital Foundry's Alex and Oliver got to see both in an AMD suite on the show floor, with a machine learning upscaling "research project" on an RX 9070-series GPU that is almost certainly FSR 4. The game of choice was Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, one of our go-to titles for comparing upscaling technologies thanks to its support for nearly all of them. AMD has announced a trio of next-gen Ryzen Z-series APUs intended for use in gaming handhelds at their CES 2025 keynote. As we reported in December, the family includes three different architectures stretching back to 2022, but the release still includes some interesting new information about where these chips might end up.

Now the American firm has collated five issues that it says are to blame for the difference between its own performance expectations and what reviewers experienced, with four of the five problems described as being already resolved by BIOS, Windows or application updates, and further performance enhancements to arrive in January 2025.

PS5 Pro deep dive reaction: GPU and RT improvements, PSSR and Sony's new AMD Amethyst partnership

When Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro, it did so in a very different manner to the reveal of PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5. While lead system architect Mark Cerny was 'master of ceremonies' for the Pro reveal, the debut has a shortlived nine-minute affair - and a good proportion of that run-time celebrated the achievements of the standard PlayStation 5 console. It was a far cry from the detailed presentation given for the reveal of Sony's first 'Pro' console and somewhat bereft of detail compared to the now legendary 'Road to PS5' presentation given by Cerny in March 2020. We were left hungry for more details - and now, they have finally arrived.

Best high-wattage USB-C chargers for Steam Deck, ROG Xbox Ally and MacBook 2025

As modern devices get increasingly powerful, they're also getting more power-hungry. Thankfully almost everything is USB-C these days - even Apple's latest MacBooks and iPhones - so you can get one charger that will charge basically everything you've got, all the way up to a laptop or gaming handheld like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally. The Ryzen 9000 release back in August was let down by relatively meagre performance improvements and an unready software ecosystem, while Intel's 285K and 245K launch last month showed a significant performance regression versus 14th-gen - despite a genuinely interesting shift in architectures. Thankfully, AMD is here to save the day with the Ryzen 9 9800X3D.

Intel Core Ultra 9 285K and Ultra 5 245K review: gaming losses, content creation wins

This feels like a rebuilding year for Intel. With AMD's Ryzen processors going from strength to strength and thermal degradation issues dogging Intel's last desktop CPUs, Team Blue has unveiled a new tile-based architecture for both mobile CPUs (Lunar Lake) and desktop CPUs (Arrow Lake S). Lunar Lake arrived to generally positive reviews, with excellent power efficiency, AI hardware support and reasonable performance, so can the new Core Ultra 200S desktop chips pull off the same trick?

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred review - a spirited expansion pack in the classic Blizzard style

I miss expansion packs. Blizzard in particular was famous for what we'd now call "post-launch DLC", updating the likes of StarCraft, Warcraft and Diablo with incredible upgrades that extended beloved storylines while adding on much-needed polish and complexity for players in love with their games. To my intense joy, Vessel of Hatred is very much a Blizzard expansion pack in that classic mould, continuing the cliff-hanger ending of Diablo 4, adding on a wickedly fun new character class and cleaning up some of the cruft that had accumulated over five seasons of play.

The power of the modern world means that you can get a 1.5TB Micro SD card for under £100

1.5 terabyte Micro SD cards are now a thing, which still slightly blows my mind after growing up with hard drives that seemed unfillably massive if they were even a fraction of a single gigabyte. Unfortunately, the game is on a shaky technical footing so far, despite some impressive elements in this surprisingly deep remake.

Logitech announces expanded sim racing lineup, long-awaited peripherals and a more affordable Astro A50

Logitech has announced a raft of new products from its annual Logi Play showcase in Paris, including new esports-grade peripherals that adopt controversial new features, an expanded range of sim racing gear not destined for the UK and a more affordable Astro A50 headset that ditches the premiere feature of the A50 X.

Acer reveal gamepad-spawning laptop, PC handheld, 600Hz monitor at IFA 2024

Acer announced a raft of new devices at its NextAtAcer event in Berlin today, including a bunch of AI laptops powered by Intel Lunar Lake, AMD Strix Point and Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors, but I want to focus on the gaming stuff. The new Core Ultra 200V chips look impressive, offering significantly better performance at lower power levels than last year's first-gen Core Ultra 'Meteor Lake', with graphics and AI performance being areas of particular improvement. In fact, the new top-level chips are even fast enough for RT gaming at decent frame-rates - something I definitely didn't expect to be a focus of Intel's presentation!

The coolest PC hardware announced at Gamescom 2024: six stories from Köln

Gamescom 2024 is officially underway in Cologne - and alongside a raft of game announcements at Opening Night Live, a lot of new PC hardware has also been shown off for the first time.

AMD Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X review: mystifying performance

A week ago we looked at the slightly underwhelming AMD Ryzen 9600X and 9700X, which were marked by modest gaming performance increases in some titles, more significantly better content creation grunt and slightly better thermals. Now it's time to look at the second half of AMD's Zen 5 quartet, the £459/$499 Ryzen 9 9900X and £609/$649 Ryzen 9 9950X. These are powerful 12-core and 16-core parts that ought to be more of interest to content creators than gamers, so do they make a better case for Ryzen 9000? And does either one manage to exceed the top-level gaming performance of the 7800X3D?

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X review: Zen 5 impresses, but 7800X3D still reigns for gaming

AMD's Ryzen 9000 CPUs have arrived, marking the debut of the more powerful and efficient Zen 5 architecture and a quartet of Dragon Ball Z meme-adjacent processor numbers: 9600X, 9700X, 9900X and 9950X. These mainstream offerings are due to go on sale on August 8th, with the 12-core and 16-core Ryzen 9 models scheduled to arrive one week later.

Altar 1, Logitech G515 TKL and Iqunix Magi65 Pro: three fascinating low profile keyboards reviewed

Low profile mechanical keyboards are a popular choice for anyone that prefers the short, snappy feel of a great laptop keyboard but wants something a little more capable, durable and customisable. While full-height mechanicals were the first to go mainstream, low-profile alternatives are becoming increasingly common, and there's an exciting arms race resulting in some truly impressive designs.
